Paolo Segneri blev født i Nettuno den 21. marts 1624 i en gammel og adelig familie. Efter at have gået ind i Convitto dei Nobili, som jesuitterne holdt i Rom i en alder af 10, endnu ikke femten, overgik han ved dispensation til deres noviciat (1. december 1637) og derfra til det romerske kollegium.
