Beskrivelse

To duer sidder i vindueskarmen foran vinduet. Bert Hermans - View Through Window Castle Sully (France)

This painting by Bert Hermans depicts the view from a double window on the third floor of the Château de Sully-sur-Loire in France, captured during the artist's stay with friends in Clémont in October 2021. The painting showcases the castle's characteristic architecture, with two doves perched on the windowsill. The Château de Sully-sur-Loire, a remarkable Loire Valley château, stands as a testament to centuries of history. Built in the late 14th century, it occupied a strategic crossing point of the Loire River since the Gallo-Roman period. Renowned for its association with Maximilian de Béthune, the first Duke of Sully and the chief minister of King Henry IV of France, the castle features intricately designed gardens, expanded structures, and restored buildings. Béthune also commissioned the construction of levees to protect the city from floods. A fire in 1918 severely damaged part of the château, necessitating its reconstruction in a different style between 1922 and 1923. Remaining in the ownership of the same family for four centuries, the Château de Sully-sur-Loire is a classified monument since 1928, owned by the Loiret department since 1962. This painting is sold with a baker's frame and a certificate of authenticity. Bert Hermans (1947) specializes in industrial and cultural heritage. His paintings often draw inspiration from buildings with unique architectural designs. Hermans regularly exhibits in galleries and at Dutch art fairs and has received numerous awards for his work, which has been shown in eight European countries, as well as the United States, China, and Japan.
