Divergent is the first book in the Divergent trilogy. It tells the story of Beatrice Prior, a young woman living in a dystopian future where society is divided into five factions: Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless, and Erudite. Each faction represents a different virtue, and young people must choose which faction to join when they turn sixteen. Beatrice chooses Dauntless, the faction of the brave, and she must soon learn to survive their brutal training. But Beatrice is not like other Divergents, and as she navigates the dangers of the faction system, she realises that she may be the key to a better future for society.
