Hammerborg was a prolific designer, personally creating over 60 lamps, and his designs for Fog & Mørup won numerous prizes. Like many of the most prominent Danish lighting designers of the postwar period, Hammerborg studied at the prestigious Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, but unlike most others, his subject was fine art rather than architecture. This, together with the fact that he also trained as a silversmith and worked for eight years at Georg Jensen, meant that when he came to lighting design he brought with him a unique perspective. His silversmith's eye and sensibility shines out in the understated simplicity of his forms, in his use of materials and finishes and in his exceptional attention to detail. First appearing in the early 1960s as part of an extensive line of copper and black lights with a shared banded shape in varying proportions of height and width, Hammerborg's Juno was later produced in vibrant red, yellow, blue and white versions as part of Fog & Mørup's 1969 Regnbue Linie (Rainbow Line) series. This particular Juno is a blue Rainbow Line example.
