Rohinton Mistry A Family Matter

A Family Matter is a novel by Canadian writer Rohinton Mistry, first published in 1991. The story centres around the lives of the two Parsis (people who are part of an Iranian religious minority) brothers, Nariman Vakeel and his older brother, Cyrus, both civil servants in Bombay. The novel was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 1992 and won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize in 1992 (Eurasia region). The novel was adapted as a well-received Bollywood film in 2012 under the same title. The film stars Nandita Das as the family matriarch, played by Roshan Seth as the male lead, and played by a talented supporting cast that includes Tara Sharma and Ratna Pathak Shah.
