Michelangelo The Dream Print

This is a print of The Dream by Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564), the famous Renaissance artist. The etching features a young man, nude, seated on a cube and leaning against a globe. A number of grotesque masks are in the box beside him. The young man's sinful dreams are depicted in the background. In several scenes, deadly sins such as lust and greed are depicted. From the sky, an angel blows a trumpet into his ear, calling him to order. The image was printed by Nicolas Beatrizet (attributed) after a painting by Michelangelo, as it is specified on the print. Published by Antonio Salamanca and Giovanni Domenico de' Rossi. The print dates from the end of the 16th century and is in fairly good condition, considering its age. There is some missing margins, along with minor paper browning and dustiness. There are also slight light spots and a small, repaired image loss on the right hand edge. The back is blank and the print is mounted on a 19th century base. The loss of the outer edges of the print is slight; however, the image loss on the right hand side is a little more pronounced. The copy is comparable to the one held by the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam (object number RP-P-OB-7277). Please refer to the additional attached images and enjoy the detail Michelangelo has etched. The shipping of this historical print will be secure.
