They are both chained to a pipe at opposite ends of the room. One man is a respected doctor, Lawrence Gordon (Cary Elwes), the other is a random young man named Adam (Leigh Whannell). They do not know each other, and neither of the two men can remember how they ended up there. In the middle of the floor lies the body of a third man. In one hand he has a gun, in the other a small tape recorder. It dawns on Lawrence and Adam that they each have a tape in their pocket. When they manage to get hold of the tape recorder and play the tape, the terrible truth dawns on them.
