Vintage Finnish Ceramic figure Kupittaan Savi Matti ja Maija

This is a vintage ceramic figurine of a couple doing the laundry. It is made in Finland and is in excellent condition. It would make a great addition to any ceramic collectors collection.

Signature on the bottom E.A. Esko Akkola. Immaculate condition.

1940s-1950s..

Kupittaan Clay is perhaps the most famous object and a treasure coveted by many collectors. The Matti and Maija series came into production after the mid-1930s, and the artist was Artturi Numminen, the creator of the factory's plaster models. The series includes several different versions, but most of the time the couple is sitting next to a big pile of laundry. Mattia and Maija were manufactured until 1969, when the factory went bankrupt.
