Turnverein Die Friesen Photo Album

This is a private photo album with original photographs of a gymnast and soldier, mostly around Halle an der Saale and Magdeburg. There are shots of gymnastics events, including the gymnastics club Die Frisen. Also photos of military maneuvers, numerous private pictures including hikes, etc. A total of 212 photos, mostly small format, some medium format, often strongly faded. Each photo is mounted on cardboard on the front and back, several unglued boxes. Linen binding from the time, damaged and slightly stained. This album features the most common forms of entertainment and daily life in the period of the turn of the century and may offer a unique insight into late German history. It was created around 1900 by a private individual and provides a rare glimpse into the life of a typical German family during this era. Snap-shots of many everyday activities of a family during a time of transition: men, women, and children enjoy themselves in various settings, like outdoor activities and celebrations in the parks and gardens, a typical German backyard garden and homes with families in front of their houses.
