Niels Peter Holbech ( Danish, 1804-1889) A Jewish gentleman and his wife. Dimensions: 9 x 10 inches without frame. 13 x 14 inches with frame. Description: Oil on canvas. Two half-length portraits of a Jewish gentleman and his wife. The male portrait is signed with Niels Peter Holbechs monogram: NPH and dated 1840. The female portrait is unsigned. Both works are inscribed on the back, stating they were exhibited at the Danish Jewish museum. Outstanding Danish Golden Age Portraits filled with exceptional details. Portrait of an esteemed Jewish gentleman in skullcap with rosy cheeks. Dressed in silk shirt, black suit and a beautiful embroidered waistcoat. His wife is dressed in a brown taffeta dress with large collar and a bonnet with lace and pale blue silk. Both portraits are framed in their authentic 19th century gilded frames.
