This Danish Aviation Plate No. 6 from 1981 is dedicated to the Douglas DC-7C 'Seven Seas'. This aircraft type was an enlarged version of the DC-4/8 family, but it was equipped with the groundbreaking Curtiss-Wright turbo-compound 3350 engine, which was often called 'the most efficient large piston engine ever developed'. The DC-7C made its maiden flight on 20 December 1955 and the first deliveries took place in 1956. It delivered flying time on a Europa-New York flight in a reduced period of 25%. The DC-7C had the honor of being the aircraft to fly over the North Pole on 24 February 1957. 'Scandinavian Airlines' made aviation history by being the first to fly the Copenhagen-Tokyo route via the North Pole and Anchorage.
