Eric Hedspore and the Viking Hodr travel to Ireland to join Hodr's brother. But Eric is quickly drawn into a bloody conflict between the native Irish and Viking colonists. The fight is over a stolen harp, which the Vikings see as a symbol of their freedom. Eric's disgust at the Viking's cruelty awakens his sympathy for the Irish, and he is forced to defend them against new dangers.
