The series is set in the Swedish migration period and tells of a time when people were led by Chieftains and Völvor. The Chieftain was responsible for the military and leadership in the village. The Völvor were both healers and spokespeople for the gods. The series is divided into trilogies and The Wolf's Lair is the second part of the third and final trilogy. Behind the name Saga Borg hide two Swedish authors; Diane Alfredhsson and Carola Haglund, who write the popular stories together. The novels have been compared to the works of Margit Sandemo and Jean M. Auels.
